SAILING THROUGH ANXIETY- Personal Account
As long as I can remember I’ve suffered from social anxiety. Having to speak up in large groups of people definitely hindered my ability to meet new people and grow friendships sometimes. I was a total introvert around people. I didn’t know that well but I was a complete extrovert with my close friends and family. It was kind of like having split personalities!
To begin with, it’s really important for individuals suffering to really try to understand their anxiety, what triggers it, and what coping methods work best for them.
GET BACK YOUR SELF WORTH!
It’s important to remember that nobody’s life is perfect and that where you are in life, even if it’s not where you want to be, is a continuous journey where there’s always room to improve and make changes for the better. You are never stuck! It’s essential to believe and love yourself each and every day and to take the time to feel self-worthy.
REACH OUT TO FRIENDS OR FAMILY
One of the worst things you can do for yourself when it comes to anxiety is to bottle up your emotions. I personally find talking it out with someone I trust is the best way to lessen your anxiety. Just getting your feelings out and sharing them with someone can help bring things back into perspective.
Never let anybody determine how you feel. Your time and energy are precious because you get to choose how you use it.
If certain situations can trigger your anxiety, it’s definitely OK to sport a “zero f**** ” attitude.
ASK FOR HELP
Sometimes, as much as we try, our anxiety can be beyond our ability to cope with on our own and it starts affecting our life on a regular basis.
Seeing a therapist definitely allows you to have a deeper understanding of your own mind which is incredibly empowering. So if this is a recommended option for you, there’s no harm in at least trying it out!
